Logging

Logging poses some of the same threats to salmon habitat as overgrazing. Removing trees from areas around rivers and streams eliminates shaded water, increasing the temperature. Logging also causes erosion, which is another source for silt in the water. Harvesting trees for wood also clears the area of big logs and old trees that would otherwise fall into the nearby river and makes areas that salmon would have been able to rest, feed, or spawn in.
